Echo Homeless Shelter is hosting a march to raise awareness and funds to keep the program running.

Echo's 8th annual Long Walk Home march is Saturday.

Event organizers say it's chance to be a part of an organization that's helping people face hunger and homelessness.

The shelter now operates 24 hours a day. It also recently added 10 beds.

Last year, the shelter raised $25,000. This year, the goal is $40,000.

Echo is funded primarily through community donations.

"Those funds make the difference in people's lives. For instance, last year we had a 112 people find houses of their own through our program,” said Wendy Lewis with Echo Homeless Shelter.

The walk kicks off Saturday morning at 10 a.m. from the shelter. Registration starts at 9:30. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for kids.
