Santa Barbara County Jail staff are trying to reunite an escaped bird with its owner.

The sheriff’s office says a domestic cockatiel made its way inside a secure fence area near the back of the main jail, located on the 4400 block of Calle Real in Santa Barbara.

Sheriff’s officials say the “jail bird” was hungry and “obviously out of place.”

Staff have fostered the bird and are hoping to reunite it with its owner.

Anyone with information on the bird or its owner is asked to email info@sbsheriff.org.
