UPDATE (5:05 p.m.) - CAL FIRE SLO says the fire along Hwy 1 in San Luis Obispo Wednesday afternoon was sparked by a worker using a grinder on a piece of farm equipment.
The worker reportedly had fire extinguishers but was not able to put out all the flames. Cal Poly police arrived and reportedly helped stop the flames before firefighters arrived.
The fire was contained to a 20x100-foot spot.

ORIGINAL STORY: A small brush fire broke out Wednesday afternoon on Highway 1 in San Luis Obispo near Cal Poly.
Crews were on scene as of 4:30 p.m. where smoke was still visible along the northbound lanes of the highway near Stenner Creek.
CAL FIRE and Cal Poly police responded to the scene.
One lane of the highway was closed in the area but traffic did not appear to be backing up.
