The City of Santa Maria is hosting a Santa Maria Parks Challenge to celebrate National Recreation and Parks Month.

The challenge invites community members to visit at least 12 of the 27 city parks to determine which one is their favorite.

People need to submit a photo of the completed challenge to get a prize.

Participation is free and open to all ages.

The parks challenge is meant to encourage city residents to actively take to the outdoors while maintaining social distancing.

"We highly encourage people to go with their family unit, those that they live with - 27 parks - there's lots of ways to social distance on our trail systems. We have lots of room for you to go up and down the trails without even running into other people, so we want people to get out, enjoy this beautiful weather, this fresh air, and get rid of those in-home jitters," said Dennis Smitherman, recreation services manager.

The last day to submit the completed challenge form is Friday, July 31st.
