In Santa Maria, the iconic Hi-Way Drive In is no more, and now the site is up for sale. The commerical real estate company Lee and Associates is advertising the 8.89 acre parcel for sale at $3.3 million dollars.
The site is expected to be turned into a mixed use parcel as zoning laws would permit a senior housing development, medical offices and other commercial uses. A zoning change is also a possible option if the new owner(s) decide to change it to all residential. This would require public hearings before the planning commission and city council.
Mark Van de Kamp, Information Manager at the City of Santa Maria says that "we would be looking to see what the new owner/developer would propose that might be compatiable with the area we would be interested in something certainly that would further the cities economic interest as well as its housing stock and we want to make sure that whatever happens it is compatible with the near by residences."
