SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA — San Luis Obispo City Fire Dept notified via a press release on December 4th that it has launched a News Line for emergencies and major incidents. The telephone number is (805) 783-7774. It will play pre-recorded messages from Fire Department Personnel. While the News line was primarily created for the Media, the Department encourages the public to use the line if they are seeking current information regarding ongoing incidents.

The messages will include timely and accurate details regarding incidents and can be accessed 24 hours a day. The Department intends to update the News Line as quickly as possible following a major incident but would like callers to keep in mind that delays can occur due to ongoing operations of the emergency.

“During a major incident, there is often critical information that needs to be communicated to the Public. This Newsline will allow the Department to provide this information to the news media throughout our region so they can broadcast out to a wider audience. News agencies fill a critical role in disseminating emergency information and the News line is another way the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department is continuing its valued partnership with the local media” said Fire Chief Keith Aggson.

Most of the information provided on the news line will be related to major incidents and emergencies, but the Department also plans on utilizing this new communications tool to provide details on public education and other Fire Department announcements. This new service is one of many ways the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department is increasing disaster preparedness for the community. The news line will be especially useful if evacuations are issued during a fast-moving wildfire.

Citizens can be informed and prepare for disaster. Visit the media line for more information at www.slocity.org/prepare.
