Work is underway on new pickleball courts in Santa Maria.
City officials say the courts at the Hagerman Sports Complex are expected to open mid-December, but could be delayed depending on what COVID-19 tier Santa Barbara County is in at that time.
The 22-acre complex includes four fields and, pre-COVID, hosted many sporting events, tournaments and other festivals and special events.
Pickleball has grown in popularity over the years and is a paddle sport played with a plastic ball with holes that combines many elements of ping-pong, tennis and badminton.
