Yeehaw and giddy up, kiddos! The Santa Maria Public Library Foundation is hosting its fourth annual Cowboy Poetry Contest for kids.

Starting Tuesday, April 23, young poets can enter their original poems about cowgirls and cowboys in the West and the work that they do.

Prizes will be distributed for the most creative poems at the library’s Cowboy Poetry Event on Saturday, May 18, at 2 p.m. The contest is open to any student in kindergarten through high school.

The poems must be submitted with an entry form attached to the City of Santa Maria Public Library by May 3. There are no limits to the number of entries.

Entry forms can be picked up at local library branches or found on the library website at www.cityofsantamaria.org/library. For more information contact the Library’s Youth Services at (805) 925-0994.
