Dozens of people showed up to celebrate the official opening of the new all-inclusive Joy Playground in Atascadero on Friday.

Joy Playground is located next to the Colony Park Community Center at 5599 Traffic Way.

It was designed for all kids to enjoy, including those with special needs. Special features include stainless steel slides which are a necessity for those with cochlear implants, swings with harness systems to keep children upright, and a custom accessible treehouse designed for kids who can’t physically climb a ladder.

A grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the park Friday afternoon and included live music and a barbeque by the Atascadero Kiwanis and Rotary groups.

The City of Atascadero worked with Parents for Joy to raise money for the playground. Fundraising began in 2014. Donations are still being accepted.
