On this Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce held its annual Freedom Monument Veterans Memorial Ceremony.

The ceremony, held at the monument located outside the Abel Maldonado Youth Center, remembered the fallen with a wreath presentation and honored all veterans who have served. The event also included a special recognition of the men and women who serve locally at Vandenberg Air Force Base.

It was followed by a free luncheon.

Friday, Dec. 7 marks the anniversary of the Japanese aerial assault on the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1941. The surprise attack claimed more than 2,400 American lives and led the United States to declare war on Japan the next day.
