City leaders in Pismo Beach celebrated improvements to beach access in Shell Beach.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony at Memory Park in Pismo Beach on Friday marked the end of a project to make it easier to access Saint Andrews Beach with a new stairway.

The project cost $4 million and stabilized the surrounding bluffs with a seawall.

“There used to be a way to get down to the beach but it has been gone for a long time and now we have reestablished it with these new stairs and it’s a lot safer to get down there, the surfers are going to love it, the visitors and residents, it’s just another way to get down to the beach,” Pismo Beach Mayor Ed Waage said.

The project also included improvements to Pismo Beach’s sewage system.
