California Highway Patrol in San Luis Obispo began implementing its Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) Wednesday evening.
The enforcement period will go on through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, December 1.
The department will send out most of its officers during Thanksgiving weekend in hopes of keeping the extra busy roads safe.
“Trying to keep the roadways clear, making sure people can get to their destinations for the holiday and most importantly, we’re just trying to keep people safe” said Officer Miguel Alvarez of the main causes behind accident this weekend.
Alvarez says the CHP in San Luis Obispo will typically have four officers on duty during a regular shift throughout the week, but will be deploying an average of seven this weekend.
