Convicted Pakistan ex-PM’s family appeals he be hospitalized

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — The family of Pakistan’s imprisoned former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is appealing that he be moved to hospital.

Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz, said Wednesday that physicians who examined her father in his prison cell have recommended hospitalization, saying his life is at risk.

She says she would hold authorities responsible if something happens to her father in prison. Nawaz is deputy president of her father’s Pakistan Muslim League party, which is now in opposition in parliament.

Sharif, who was prime minister three times, is now in prison for corruption.

He and his family members have been embroiled in several trials on corruption charges after the Supreme Court disqualified him from office in July 2017.

Nawaz was released on bail after her own corruption sentence was suspended recently.
