The Reclaim Pride SLO March and Rally celebrated the diversity and strength of San Luis Obispo County’s queer and trans community.

Organizers say this was an opportunity to honor the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, and to acknowledgment that the work to achieve justice for marginalized groups is far from over.

The Queer Crowd hosted the march and rally, which they say was a non-corporate pride event focused on the political issues of our times.

Participants say they are reclaiming pride from the assimilationist queer politics that have allowed corporations, banks, and police departments to turn pride into a spectacle of rainbow capitalism.

“We are saying that queer rights are human rights and if we can’t elevate the folks that are being the most oppressed then there is no future for all of us, so we march for the people that can’t,” says Reese Galido.

The Queer Crowd is a group that was formed in San Luis Obispo County three years ago. They hope they can reach out to more people in their community as they say they are committed to the principle that marginalized groups can come together to help transform the world.
