People are expected to gather at the San Luis Obispo County Courthouse steps on Saturday to remember those who have died at border detention facilities.

Organizers say Lights for Liberty SLO will shine a light on the conditions for asylum seekers at the border. It is part of other national rallies.

Allies for Immigration Justice San Luis Obispo County and Women’s March SLO are organizing the event.

“Join us as we shine the light on what is happening at the border and in detention centers across the country,” the Facebook event stated.

It will begin at noon with a vigil and rally. The march will take place at 1 p.m.

“This is really focused on the action steps people can take,” said Dawn Addis, lead organizer of the Women’s March of San Luis Obispo. “Since our time a year ago, there are a lot of advocacy organizations that have started to put energy in solving the crisis at the border.”

Organizers ask people to bring signs of support and make their voices heard.

“We ask that those attending do not attack or target a specific person or group,” the Facebook event stated.
