The mayor of Lompoc is gifting a special book from her work trip to Washington, D.C. to a bookmobile that serves the community.

The book is called “Library on Wheels” and is all about how one woman started the first bookmobile in America.

Mary Lemist Titcomb was a librarian who wanted to get books in the hands of people who do not have the time or access to get to a library.

Lompoc started its bookmobile three years ago and the mayor hopes it serves young children in the community well.

“Buying a bookmobile and fitting it to children… and naming it Charlotte’s Web was really a creative way to address the need and actually make it out into the community to more children than a physical location might be able to,” said Jenelle Osborne, Lompoc mayor.

The bookmobile in Lompoc serves the Boys and Girls Club, homeless shelters, the YMCA, Foodbank events, and other city events.
