UPDATE: Northbound Highway 101 fully reopens in Shell Beach following big rig fire

UPDATE (8:36 a.m.) - CHP reported at 8:31 a.m. that the highway in Shell Beach had fully reopened after a big rig fire Friday night.

Crews were out overnight with one northbound lane shut down. The big rig was hauled away early Saturday morning and crews worked to cleanup remaining debris before fully reopening all northbound lanes to traffic.

UPDATE (6:30 a.m.) - One lane of northnbound Highway 101 in Shell Beach remained closed as of 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

UPDATE (12:03 a.m.) — Northbound traffic on Highway 101 near Shell Beach is moving in a single-file flow through the scene of the accident.

Authorities said the left lane is open but the right lane will remain closed through the night as crews work to clean up the charred wreckage.

The northbound lanes near Spyglass Road were completely blocked for over two hours as crews attempted to extinguish the blaze.

It is not yet known how the fire started. The status of the driver is not known.

Original (9:53 p.m.) — A big rig fire shut down the northbound lanes of Highway 101 in Shell Beach Friday night.

The fire was reported at about 9:20 p.m. near the Spyglass Dr. offramp.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SIG Alert to warn drivers of the closure.

It's unknown how long the highway will be shut down.
