UPDATE (Jan. 4, 2019; 5:15 p.m.) – A man whose body was found in a remote area of Montaña de Oro State Park was a Cal Poly student.
The university sent an email to students and staff Friday saying Michael Kullman was a fourth-year Industrial Technology and Packaging major who had grown up in Arroyo Grande.
In the email, the university said Kullman was the president of Cal Poly’s Industrial Technology Society student club and was also involved with his local church.
President Jeffrey Armstrong says the university has been in contact with Kullman’s family to offer support.
“As we return to campus in the new year, let’s take the time to come together in community and remember Michael,” said Armstrong in a campus-wide email.
Counseling services are available for Cal Poly students 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
UPDATE (Jan. 4, 2019; 11:10 a.m.) – The body of a man who was reported missing on Thursday was found at 12 a.m. on Friday in a remote area of Montaña de Oro State Park, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.
Search and Rescue Team members and State Parks rangers reportedly began searching the park for Michael Kullman after his vehicle was spotted there Thursday afternoon.
Sheriff’s officials say foul play is not suspected in the 20-year-old’s death.
(Jan. 3, 2019; 8:57 p.m.) – The San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Office confirmed a helicopter was circling near Montana De Oro Thursday night, investigating a missing person’s case.
Deputies said they are looking for someone but did not provide details on who they were searching for. They added that more details will be available as the search continues.
