UPDATE (8:10 a.m.): A man was killed in a rollover crash on Highway 101 in Goleta early Monday morning.
The California Highway Patrol reports the 27-year-old was heading southbound shortly before 1 a.m. when his black Chevrolet Silverado drifted to the left and struck the guardrail just north of Los Carneros Road. The driver then reportedly overcorrected, lost control and hit the guardrail a second time before the vehicle rolled over an unknown number of times.
The man was not wearing a seatbelt, according to CHP, and was ejected from the truck. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officers say traffic was light at the time of the crash.
All lanes of traffic were blocked for about two hours following the collision and traffic was diverted off the freeway at Los Carneros Road and then back on via the onramp during the investigation and cleanup.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officers have not yet released the name of the driver and say it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
